Dominican Republic Residency Visa

The Dominican Republic residency visa will be issued for those who are interested in residing in the country permanently due to family ties (family reunification by marriage/direct dependence), investors law 171-97, or as prisoners/retirees/rent holders. The temporary residency visa (RS) will be issued with a validity of 60 days in which the applicant will have to formalize the procedures and submit all the required documents to the General Directorate of Immigration. There are 4 types of Dominican Republic residency visa, i.e. Family Reunification, Investment, Rent Holder, and Pension & Retirement visas. Below are the requirements for all the four types:

1. Residence Visa For Family Reunification

To apply, here are the required documents:

  • Filled Visa Form: Complete the visa filled up either by hand or typed.

  • Visa Application Letter: Write a letter addressed to the corresponding consular office, signed by the beneficiary. Include your name, nationality, place of residence, and current productive activity. If you plan to establish residency in the Dominican Republic as a spouse or child of a legal resident, mention this in the letter. Note that this letter does not require legalization or apostille.

  • Photograph: Front facing passport-sized photograph with the size of 4×5 centimeter and white background.

  • Original Passport: With a validity of at least 6 months.

  • Residence Card Copy: Include a legible photocopy of your residence card, if applicable.

  • Birth Certificate

  • Certificate of No Criminal Record: Must be issued by the country you have resided in the last 5 years and should be issued within the past 12 months.

  • Marriage Certificate and Children’s Birth Certificates: If applicable, submit the marriage certificate and birth certificates of your children.

  • Declaration of Free Union: Provide a notarized declaration certifying a free union lasting at least two years, if applicable.

  • Medical Certification: Confirming that you don’t have any infectious or contagious disease.

  • Previous Visas: If you have any valid or expired visas from the Dominican Republic or other countries, submit them along with your application.

  • Proof of Financial Means:  Recent bank statements, labor certification, and title of ownership your residence, business farm, land, or vehicle registration if you own them.

Note:

  1. All the documents should be translated to Spanish.
  2. If you’re applying for a visa as a spouse, partner, or parent, you’ll need to provide a Letter of Guarantee that is notarized and legalized. The letter serves as a commitment that you are morally and economically responsible for your spouse, partner, or children in the Dominican Republic.

2. Investment Residence Visa

To apply, here are the required documents:

  • Filled Visa Form: Complete the visa filled up either by hand or typed.
  • Visa Application Letter: Write a letter addressed to the corresponding consular office, signed by the beneficiary. Include your name, nationality, place of residence, and current productive activity along with how you plan to establish yourself as an investor.
  • Photograph: Front facing passport-sized photograph with the size of 4×5 centimeter and white background.
  • Original Passport: With a validity of at least 6 months.
  • Birth Certificate
  • Certificate of No Criminal Record: Must be issued by the country you have resided in the last 5 years and should be issued within the past 12 months.
  • Medical Certification: Confirming that you don’t have any infectious or contagious disease.
  • Investor Certificate: Direct investors must present a copy of investor certificate of Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD).
  • A Copy of  The Certification of The National Council of Free Zones: Required for companies that operate under the Free Trade Zone regime.
  • The Certification of Border Development Projects: Required for companies that work on border work and development.
  • Previous Visas: If you have any valid or expired visas from the Dominican Republic or other countries, submit them along with your application.
  • Proof of Financial Means:  Recent bank statements, labor certification, and title of ownership your residence, business farm, land, or vehicle registration if you own them.

Note:

  1. All the documents should be translated to Spanish.
  2. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs serves the right to call the individual up for an interview with an official of the consular address..

3. Rent Holder Residency Visa

To apply, here are the required documents:

  • Filled Visa Form: Complete the visa filled up either by hand or typed.
  • Visa Application Letter: Write a letter addressed to the corresponding consular office, signed by the beneficiary. Include your name, nationality, place of residence, and current productive activity along with how you plan to establish yourself as a rentier.
  • Photograph: Front facing passport-sized photograph with the size of 4×5 centimeter and white background.
  • Original Passport: With a validity of at least 6 months.
  • Birth Certificate
  • Certificate of No Criminal Record: Must be issued by the country you have resided in the last 5 years and should be issued within the past 12 months.
  • Medical Certification: Confirming that you don’t have any infectious or contagious disease.
  • Documents That Show Personal Investment: Made within the country of origin (such as copy of real estate property titles, bank statement, money movement details, etc.) along with detailed information about the financial institution where the accumulated funds come from.
  • Accreditation Documents: Documentations that accredits you as a share holder or owner of the company from which the rent originates (must submitted in original).
  • Previous Visas: If you have any valid or expired visas from the Dominican Republic or other countries, submit them along with your application.

Note:

  1. All the documents should be translated to Spanish.
  2. According to the Law 171-07, the rent holder must have a minimum income of US $ 2,000.00 or the equivalent in Dominican pesos.

4. Residency Visa For Pension and Retirements

To apply, here are the required documents:

  • Filled Visa Form: Complete the visa filled up either by hand or typed.
  • Visa Application Letter: Write a letter addressed to the corresponding consular office, signed by the beneficiary. Include your name, nationality, place of residence, and current productive activity along with how you plan to establish yourself as a pensioner.
  • Photograph: Front facing passport-sized photograph with the size of 4×5 centimeter and white background.
  • Original Passport: With a validity of at least 6 months.
  • Birth Certificate
  • Certificate of No Criminal Record: Must be issued by the country you have resided in the last 5 years and should be issued within the past 12 months.
  • Medical Certification: Confirming that you don’t have any infectious or contagious disease.
  • Certification of Information Proof: Application issued by the government, official agency, or private company of the applicant country of origin containing the applicant’s general information, time spent in the company or organization, position held, and the amount of pension received,
  • Previous Visas: If you have any valid or expired visas from the Dominican Republic or other countries, submit them along with your application.

Note:

  1. All the documents should be translated to Spanish.
  2. According to the Law 171-07, the pensioner must have a minimum income of US $ 1,500.00 dollars or its equivalent in pesos.

How To Enter The Country

After obtaining the visa, you need an e-ticket if you want to enter the Dominican Republic through air transport as indicated by the new government law on 1st of April, 2021. This measure was put to streamline the immigration and customs process, reduces the risk of errors compared to handwritten paper forms, and to better keep track of the travelers for security purposes.
